Privacy
Home Study Tutor is designed for school support with a local-first privacy model.
Native iOS App
For Canvas access in the native iOS app, this is not a hosted school-data service and the backend is not the processor of Canvas grades, assignments, credentials, or cookies. The app runs on the user's iPhone, logs in from that iPhone, and keeps Canvas session state and school data on that iPhone.
Open Source Review
The iOS code that handles local Canvas login, passwords, cookies, assignments, grades, and local storage is prepared as open source under the Apache License 2.0 so families and schools can inspect how the local privacy boundary works: github.com/george-moore-ai/home-study-tutor-ios-core.
What The Backend Does
The backend may store push registration metadata so it can send scheduled refresh nudges to the app. When a user asks the native tutor a question or requests a printable study guide, the app sends only the selected assignment context and the prompt needed for that one request. If the user chooses to submit a homework image, that image is sent for tutoring feedback. The app does not automatically send locally stored Canvas assignments, grades, credentials, cookies, or progress data. The backend does not keep a Canvas database for the native app path.
SMS And Web Demo
The SMS/web demo may process messages sent to it, personalized tutor chat text, assignment context, and Canvas connection details if a user chooses that older web-based flow. Demo mode works without a Canvas login.
Personalized Tutor Sessions
Personalized Tutor sessions help a student learn. They do not ask for unnecessary personal details, do not contain ads, and do not sell data. A student may optionally upload a homework photo or screenshot for tutoring feedback. Uploads are limited to image files, stripped of metadata, resized, and reviewed for relevance before tutoring.
Storage
Short-lived personalized tutor links use opaque tokens and do not place assignment details in the URL. Native-app Canvas data stays on the phone. Operational logs and push registration metadata may be stored to keep the app reliable, but native-app Canvas assignments, grades, progress data, credentials, and cookies are not stored by the backend.
Sharing
Data is used only to operate school support, messaging, push notifications, and tutor model features selected by the user.
